The costume is there but it does not fit: too wide, too long, the zip is stuck or a seam from last year is still open. That is exactly what we are here for. At Zekos Express on Sempacherstrasse 19 in Lucerne we alter bought, inherited and home-made carnival costumes so they fit and hold during the parade.
We take the costume in or let it out, shorten sleeves, legs and hem, move buttons and ties and adjust the shoulders. On costumes from the attic we check the seams and the fabric first – reinforcing shoulders, armholes and pockets is often worth more than a new costume. On request we leave seam allowance so the costume can be altered again next year.
A stuck or missing zip, a tear in a sleeve, appliqués coming loose, a dropped hem: we usually handle this within a few days, and faster on request just before the carnival. We replace zips in the matching colour and length, mend tears as invisibly as possible and re-attach trims, bells and appliqués so they survive the parade.
Confetti, rain and paint leave their mark. Hand the costume in soon after the parades – fresh stains come out far better than dried ones. We clean it in our own dry cleaning department in the same building.

Yes, in the same building. Many people hand the costume in for cleaning after the carnival and have next year's alterations done at the same time.
